Outpatient Services

We provided a range of clinical services across our outpatient departments. A career in Outpatients could involve minor operations, various nurse-led clinics, the chance to work in community settings, diagnostics and working in a range of specialty clinics undertaking observations, supporting consultants and looking after patients and their families.

We have outpatients at all of our 7 sites: Loughborough Hospital, Melton Mowbray Hospital, Rutland Memorial Hospital, St Luke’s Treatment Centre, Fielding Palmer Hospital, Coalville Community Hospital.

All sites are based within LLR offering a number of work locations across the county. Nurses work alongside HCAs providing a plethora of consultant or nurse led clinics such as Audiology, Cardiology, Community Paediatrics,  Dermatology including light therapy and minor ops, Diabetology, ENT,  ESP, Gastro, General Surgery, Geriatric Medicine, Gynaecology, Maxillofacial, Nephrology, Neurology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Paediatric Medicine, Paediatric Surgery, Paediatric Trauma,  Plastic Surgery, Rheumatology, Thoracic, Urology, Podiatric surgery, vascular services.

Each unit offers a different patient perspective depending on the size of the department and therefore different career opportunities e.g. working with Artificial Intelligence (AI) to review skin lesions in Dermatology as a nurse/ HCA led pathway.

The outpatient environment is often seen as the ‘front door’ of the NHS trust as it will often be the first engagement that the patient has with the local healthcare provider. Our departments offer modern facilities and free parking. The teams are pivotal in supporting waiting list initiatives within a balance of family friendly working hours.

Day Case Services

Day surgery brings recognised benefits for both patients and system-wide efficiencies related to patient quality and experience, reduced waiting times and protecting bed capacity across the acute areas. We have 3 Day Case Units based at Loughborough Hospital, Melton Mowbray Hospital and Hinckley and District Hospital. All 3 offer a range of Day Case specialties: Daycase Services: Cataracts, General Surgery, Gynaecology, Podiatric Surgery, Ocular Plastics, Orthopaedics, Vascular services, Day Case Trauma lists.

We welcome nurses, ODPs and HCAs – all roles are vital to providing a strong MDT working environment within our forward thinking units. We can offer roles on the ward, theatre, scrub, recovery as well as specific skills such as ‘Surgical First Assistant’. All staff are supported by a diverse and inclusive ethos with access to a plethora of training opportunities via our leadership faculty.

The Day Case environment offers a fast pace clinical area within balanced working hours normally between 08:00-18:00 throughout the week.

Endoscopy

Around 1-1.5% of the population requires an upper or lower endoscopic investigation of the gastrointestinal tract each year. Gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures are used as diagnostic, as well as interventional. It includes gastroscopies where the scope is placed inside the oesophagus, stomach and first part of the small bowel; and colonoscopies where the scope is inserted in the large bowel. Nurse’s and HCAs play an important role in these procedures.

We offer Endoscopy, Cystoscopy and Bowel Screening across our Endoscopy Units. Three of the departments are embedded within our community hospitals at Hinckley and District, Loughborough and Melton Mowbray Hospitals. St Luke’s Treatment Centre provides this service within a purpose built standalone unit. We offer a manageable work / life balance with shifts 8-6 through the week but each site provides a busy schedule of clinics depending on the supporting Consultants.
